CO2 emission factors for electricity generation in Brazil's National Interconnected System

Version – July 1, 2008.

Changes in relation to the previous version

 1) The EF for January thru May 2008 were included.

 2) The 25th hour for 2/18/2006 and 2/24/2007 was removed.

The calculation of the CO2 emission factors on this page follows the methodological “Tool to calculate the emission factor for an electricity system” approved by the CDM Executive Board and published in Annex 12 of the EB 35 Report.

The CIMGC, as the CDM designated national authority in Brazil, defined a single system for the connected electric system, the National Interconnected System (SIN), for the purpose of using the methodological tool. This configuration will only be valid for calculating CO2 emission factors in CDM projects that use the aforementioned methodological tool to estimate greenhouse gas emission reductions.

In the tables below, we show the CO2 emission factors for the build margin and the operational margin according to the dispatch analysis. They are calculated from generation records of plants dispatched in a centralized manner by the National Electric System Operator (ONS).

Operational margin emission factors are provided in three versions: hourly, daily and monthly factors. The build margin emission factors are annual.
